As a resident of the North Carolina mountains, I’m continually fascinated by my environment’s physical fluctuations, as well as by the terms associated with this area’s “ups and downs.” I incorporated map segments containing melodic place names, and I handwrote a collection of rhythmic place names and terms for the landscape’s features. The collograph (relief print) forming the book’s interior pages suggests both land and sky, which so often seemingly merge as I’m viewing them. In all aspects, this book is a celebration of the surprises that abound on twisting mountain backroads. (Closed: 2 3/8” x 2 3/8” x 7/8”.
