Change/Discovery
Change/Discovery is a celebration of the traditional toy called a Jacob’s ladder, which holds complex, multifaceted possibilities for a book’s text and imagery. As I handled one of these wooden toys and watched the panels flip, the theme of “change and discovery” came to mind and seemed to fit perfectly. As the reader-viewer sets off the book's flipping action, thirty words are revealed along the panel-connecting ribbons. This book appeared in the Seattle exhibition "The Book as Art: Hand2Hand," held at the Columbia City Gallery, November 17, 2010-January 23, 2011. This exhibition, curated by MalPina Chan, focused on books that people must interact with to experience fully.
